Cross Country Preview
The men's and women's cross country team hits the ground running today, September 2, at the Central Dutch Invitational in Pella, Iowa. Coach Ryan Long is optimistic about a team of mostly newcomers this season.
Newcomers include Jeremy Kamberger, Conrad Lobb, and David Loveall for the men, and Valerie Busenitz, Caressa Kluver, and Jeannie Wilkinson for the women. Returnees are Kristin Yuan and MaryAnn Hendrickson for the women. Yuan is a dual-sport athlete this fall, also participating in women's soccer, so she can only run in select events.
"I am really excited to see what these athletes can do at our first race," said Coach Long. "Our team captain, freshman Conrad Lobb, has been doing a great job leading the way in practices for the men, with David and Jeremy close behind. Freshman Caressa Kluver has been pushing the ladies squad in practices, and when Kristin is able to join us, she usually takes over the lead spot."
The team will run at seven events this year, including a regional meet at Faith Baptist Bible College on October 22. Today's run in Pella won't be a national qualifying race for the men, but it will be for the women.
