Road Weary Eagles Gear Up for Conference Tournament
By Jon Crossman
OVERLAND PARK, Kansas — The Eagles have hit a rough patch, losing three of their last five games after a particularly outstanding middle portion of the season. Their latest loss came after a comeback fell short against Kansas Christian College of the Bible, a one-point heartbreaker at the end of an exhausting road trip with three road games in five days.
The weekend had its high points, with a 58-47 win against CCCB giving the Eagles some leverage in the conference. The loss to Kansas Christian had some good takeaways as well, with three different Eagles scoring 15 or more points in the close game. Rachel Kleczka, Mikayla Jones and Tina Harms each carried the brunt of the points, with almost perfect free throw shooting (10-11) keeping the team in the race. The dooming factor in the end was a lack of shooting in the clutch as the Eagles shot 0-for-6 in three-pointers and had a bevy of missed opportunities to bury a lead in the final quarter giving Kansas the space they needed to close out the game, 57-56.
The Eagles are still holding strong in the standings, sitting at 10-2 in the conference just days before the MCC Conference Tournament begins. The Eagles set their sights once again on Kansas, with games still being locked in on the schedule.
