Eagles Continue to Break School Records
Eagles have a record breaking meet at the Grinnell College Dick Young Classic.
It was a cold and cloudy day for the Faith Eagles track team at Grinnell College on Saturday, April 20th.
The Eagles did not let the weather stop them from competing at their best! There were many PR's throughout the meet and a total of six Faith records were established or broken throughout the day.
Starting off for the Eagles was Codie Wirges in the triple jump. Jumping a distance of 9.79m, Codie established a new Faith record and was .01 from the national qualifying mark. Andy Hecker also established a men's Faith triple jump record of 11.47m and broke his own long jump record, jumping 5.77m.
The Eagles took first and second place in the women's high jump with Mercedez Long and Hannah Wernli respectively.
The Lady Eagles also established a 4x400m relay Faith record (Codie Wirges, Mercedez Long, Becca Hulinsky, Lydia Mueller), and broke their previous school record in the 4x100m relay (Demi Del Prior, Grace Welch, Gabriella Widman, Hannah Wernli).
A highlight from the men's team was David Loveall setting a new Faith record in the men's 3000m run with a time of 9:46. David broke a record that had been standing since 2013!
Finishing the day off with a throwers 4x100m relay, all Eagles gathered around to support the relay teams! The men's relay consisted of Evan Van Der Molen, Andy Hecker, Spencer Gadbois, and Luke Akins. Running at the same time was the women's team with Kyla Rounds, Megan Hunter, Belle Wirges, and Kat Tylavsky.
The women's team finished with a total of 54 points, breaking the previous Faith women's record for most team points scored in a meet!
The Eagles compete in one more meet this coming Thursday and Friday, 4/25-26, at Simpson College in Indianola, IA. View the full track and field schedule here.
