Volleyball Season Begins Friday Night for Faith Eagles
Faith faces Trinity Bible College in the opening round of the Spikefest Tournament
The 2018 volleyball season officially tips off for the Faith Eagles this Friday during Spikefest—a two-day, eight-team tournament, filled with top-flight competition. The tournament is hosted by Faith Baptist Bible College, and the loaded field of participants includes Maranatha Baptist University, the 2017 National Champions. The Eagles finished 2-2 in last year's Spikefest Tournament, losing in the championship game to Maranatha, 3-0.
"The Spikefest Tournament is viewed by many in the NCCAA as a premium tournament," said Coach Nihart. "It always provides coaches and players early insight to the strengths and weaknesses of our team to work on during the upcoming season."
The Eagles face Trinity Bible College at 4:00 p.m. on Friday for their first match of the 2018 season, followed by a matchup with Manhattan Christian at 8:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Eagles will face Cottey College at 11:00 a.m. Faith's only matchup against Cottey College in 2017 was a 3-0 loss on the road.
Coach Nihart's team finished strong at the end of last season, winning 7 of its last 11 matches, but the Eagles will have to replace a large portion of its roster, with just five players returning. Faith will build its young roster around two returning All-Conference players from a season ago: Sophomore Abby Booth (Grandview Christian) and sophomore Bekah Smith (Ankeny Christian Academy).
