2022 Women's Soccer Season Review
This soccer season, we studied the book of Nehemiah in captains groups. Our theme was A Passion for Faithfulness: Standing Firm in the Face of Opposition. Some of the lessons we learned as a team was the importance of prayer, being faithful in everything we do, reminding ourselves often of God's faithfulness, and how to humbly serve others as we follow God.
We started out our season with a "mini-regional tournament" against Crown and Providence. This was a good litmus test to see where we would need to be to compete in our region at the end of the season. We would meet Crown again at home just a week later and our defensive structure improved in a rainy game at Pyche Field. This gave us confidence heading into our next fixtures, getting some wins before our big road trip to Michigan. After a tough game with Great Lakes, the #1 ranked team in the nation (at the time), we were able to bounce back the next day to get a big win against the #4 ranked team in the nation (at the time), Grace Christian. From there, we were able to pick up a nice Homecoming Day win and continue to build momentum towards Regionals. Our final regular season game was a road test at Maranatha, where we were able to pull-out a win. We then met up with Crown for the third time in the regional semi-final, where we ended our season against a very good opponent.
Some of the team's favorite memories were: going to Saylorville Lake after a team meal, traveling to Michigan to play against Grace Christian University and Great Lakes Christian College, and serving together at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp for a weekend service opportunity.
We've already signed some quality recruits for next year to add to a good core from our current team returning. We look forward to building off of the positives and continuing to grow as a team.
