Eagles Finish Regular Season; Prep For Nationals Begins
INDIANOLA, Iowa—The weather for the final regular-season track meet of 2022 was no different from the rest of the spring competitions thanks to a brisk wind which made for a chilly, but not unbearably-cold day. The day began with rain, which stopped just before the start of the field events. Wet conditions made it difficult for the throwers and jumpers to have good footing for the events.
The Kip Janvrin Invitational has grown each year as teams from across the country bring athletes to compete at the Drake Relays while the rest of their team that hasn't qualified for the Relays competes at Simpson. There were around 130 competitors in the hammer throw, which took over five hours to complete, and there were 21 heats of the 100-meter dash. Eagles athletes worked hard in their events and enjoyed seeing some elite NCAA Division athletes throughout the competition.
The Eagles plan to take four athletes to Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois, May 11-13, for the NCCAA National Track Meet. Competitors at Nationals will include Sierra Udd in the discus, Kristin Yuan and Sharon Yuan in the 400-meter hurdles, and Sadie Long in the high jump. The coaches request prayer that the team will remain injury free as athletes finish training over the next 10 days leading up to the event.
