Faith Sets School Records at Cornell Invitational
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa—The Faith track team arrived at Cornell College Saturday morning and was welcomed by a snow-covered track. The snow melted before the races began, but it was a cold and wet day to be outdoors.
"The team did a great job and I don't remember hearing any complaints except from the coaches whose hands were numb from the cold," said Coach Ryan Long. "We did intentionally scratch out of the 3000-meter steeplechase event, as we didn't want our athletes to be sitting around in wet clothes and shoes all afternoon."
Despite the cold and wet conditions, two school records were set on Saturday. Laney Jones ran the 5000 meter race in a time of 24:46 for a new school record. The Cornell meet included a co-ed 4x400 relay consisting of two men and two women from each team. The Faith team was composed of Jake Flickinger, Sharon Yuan, Sadie Long, and Josiah Brown. They completed the mile in 4:31, setting a standard for the Eagles in that first-time event for the school.
Next weekend's meet in Pella will likely be more of the same weather conditions, but Central College is considering moving their meet from Friday to Saturday if the forecast continues to show slightly warmer weather on Saturday. Thank you for praying for our team!
