Goergen Scores 1000th Point In Win Over Emmaus
ANKENY, Iowa—Faith Eagles point guard Jayce Goergen made history Monday evening, scoring his 1000th career point in a 64-46 win over Emmaus Bible College. Goergen led all scorers with 21 points. He also grabbed seven rebounds in the victory.
The junior from Ankeny, Iowa, who played his high school ball a block away at Ankeny Christian Academy, has had a brilliant career, starting nearly every game since his arrival as a freshman. Jayce averaged 11.9 points per game during his freshman year at Faith, 18.3 points as a sophomore, and is averaging 13.5 points per game this season. After missing four games in mid-January due to illness, Jayce has regained his strength and is hitting his groove, averaging 21.5 points over his last two games.
The Eagles struggled in the first half against Emmaus, shooting just 29.7% from the floor as they took a one-point deficit into the locker room at halftime. Faith clamped down defensively in the second half, giving up just 17 points to Emmaus, forcing nine turnovers, and holding their fellow Eagles to 1-of-11 shooting from three-point distance. The Eagles trailed 40-39 at the 12:26 mark in the second half before finally regaining the lead on a pair of free throws by Kalab Sidlinger. From there, Faith never looked back, gradually building its lead to the 18-point difference at the buzzer.
Other notable performances for the Eagles included Kalab Sidlinger's 17 points and 9 rebounds, Jared Pearson's 10 points and 7 rebounds, and Christian Brown's 8 points and 2 rebounds.
Faith (6-10) is back in action this Friday night at 6 p.m. against Ozark Christian College (11-10).
