Betz Ends Career With All American Selection
Faith Baptist Bible College's Tyler Betz ended his collegiate career with his third selection to the NCCAA II All American First Team this past week. The honors were announced at the NCCAA II National Tournament Banquet held on the campus of Central Bible College in Springfield, MO. Betz finished the year as the national leader in points per game, averaging 29.1 for the Eagles. Betz also finished second in the nation in rebounds per game with 12.5, averaging a double double for the Eagles on the year. Tyler finished in the top 20 in the nation in blocks per game.
Within the NCCAA II North Central Region, a region boasting the top three scorers in the nation, Betz led the region in scoring and finished in the top 10 in every statistical category. Tyler was a First Team All Region and First Team All Midwest Christian Colleg Conference selectionthis year. He was recognized as the NCCAA II National Player of the Week when he broke the school record for points in a game with 52.
It was a record setting end to a record setting career for Betz, as Tyler broke several records for the Eagles during the season. In addition to most points in one game, most field goals in one game (22), and most free throws made in one game (20), he also tied the record for most rebounds in a game (30), and set the record for most rebounds in a season (386), most points in a season (901), highest scoring average for a season (29.1), and highest scoring average in a career (21.6). He came within 98 points of breaking the school's all time scoring mark.
Betz was also a recipient of the NCCAA II Scholar Athlete Award. Recipients of this award have to be a junior or senior with a cumulative gpa of 3.4 or higher. Betz received the award as a junior as well. Tyler will be graduating with a degree in Biblical Studies and is looking forward to the opportunity to minister in France next year.
