Gingerich Fuels Eagles First Win
The Eagle men grabbed their first win of the season Saturday, as junior Dillon Gingerich scored a career high 33 points and the Eagles pulled even at 1-1 in the region. Faith defeated region opponent Providence University College 72-62, putting the Eagles a 1-6 overall on the year.
Faith quickly jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the first three minutes behind two Gingerich three point shots and another by Tim Jones. The Eagles maintained that lead over the next several minutes, as they held a 24-17 lead with eight minutes to play. Unfortunately, the Eagles struggles with turnovers returned over the next two and a half minutes as they turned the ball over three times, allowing a 9-1 run by Providence, who took a 26-25 lead with six minutes to play. Gingerich responded again for the Eagles on the next possession, hitting a jumper to give the Eagles the lead right back. Faith would maintain the lead into the half, up five 35-30. Faith played well out of the break, slowly increasing the lead to double digits nine minutes into the second half. Faith maintained the lead throughout the rest of the half, leading by as much as 15 before Providence hit a late desperation three and a layup as time expired to make the 62-72 final score.
Gingerich led all scorers with 33 points including five of six from behind the arc. Tyler Betz had another great night, scoring 28 points while grabbing 14 rebounds and grabbing two steals. Cooper Rodman had a good night distributing the ball as he handed out seven assists. Faith returns home for a game this coming Tuesday night against Union College from Lincoln, NE. The game will tip at 7:00 PM.
