Despite Senior Tyler Betz's 46 point 16 rebound effort this past Tuesday, the Eagle men fell in heartbreaking fashion to visiting Union College. Faith fell by a final of 89-91, and is now 1-7 on the year.
Faith looked sharp early on, jumping out to a 14-6 lead. Union chipped away at the lead, eventually taking the lead at 24-25 midway through the half. Faith failed to defend the three point line for the next few minutes, as Union used four threes in row along with a jumper to jump start a 22-9 run which led to a 47-34 Union lead. Faith was able to get some stops late in the half and put together their own 8-0 run to pull within five at 42-47 going into the break. The game remained close for much of the second half, with Union pulling ahead by eight with a minute and a half to play. Faith fouled Union and Union made on of two free throws to go up nine, but Betz knocked down a three and the Eagles stole the ball on the ensuing inbounds play to pull within four. Union then hit both free throws, with Faith quickly converting another basket, then forcing another turnover and hit the layup to pull within two with 50 seconds to play. The Eagles forced a contested Union shot and rebounded the bal with 12 seconds left, but turned the ball over on the ensuing game tying attempt to fall 91-89.
Along with his 46 points and 16 rebounds, Betz grabbed three steals and one block on the night. Dillon Gingerich added 21 points and three more steals, while Cooper Rodman handed out six assists. Faith hits the road for an NCCAA North Central regional game this Saturday. Faith will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota, for a 3:00 PM contest with nationally ranked and region leading North Central University.
