Women's Soccer Season Review
The Faith women's soccer team ended their season with a 1-12 record. Despite having only one win on the season the Lady Eagles played hard every single time they went out on the field. This year's team was made up of seven returners, and eight new players. This year's team was also very young as we had only two seniors and one junior, and the rest being sophomores' and freshmen. We thank the Lord that there were no series injures or sickness throughout the whole season.
The biggest question the Lady Eagles faced at the beginning of this year was who was going to play goalie? Senior KD Hutchins stepped up to fill the position. Hutchins had played her freshman year for the Lady Eagles, but not the previous season. She played every minute of every game between the posts. Having never played goalie before she had a lot to learn, but worked hard every game and practice improving greatly by the end of the season. Rebekah Stilwell (Jr) and Laura Christenson (Fr) both had three points this season with a goal and assist. Holly Shepard (So) had fourteen points this season scoring seven goals for the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles faced off against Providence University College in the semi-final regional game. Providence jumped on the Eagles quickly, scoring a goal just a minute and a half into the game to take the early lead. For much of the game, Providence played in the Eagles half, but timely saves by keeper KD Hutchins combined with solid defending from the back four kept the Pilots from adding to their lead and the Eagles went into the break trailing by just one. Faith created some limited scoring opportunities to start the half, and in the 56th minute Holly Shepard got in behind the Pilots defense. Shepard calmly worked around the keeper and placed the ball into the net to pull Faith even at one a piece. Faith would get a couple more chances but Providence slowly mounted the pressure on Faith. The Eagles defense remained strong for much of the half, but finally cracked in the 86th minute when Providence was able to find the game winner to grab the win from the Eagles. Faith was unable to find the equalizer in the final four minutes, falling by the 2-1 final.
Rebekah Stilwell, Carissa LaFleur, and Holly Shepard were voted to the all-region team this year. The Lady Eagles are losing a few seniors, but are looking forward to next season.
