Late Rally Falls Short for Lady Eagles

The Lady Eagles soccer team got back to action this past Tuesday after being off for two weeks. Faith hosted Manhattan Christian College in the first of two matches this season. Manhattan jumped up on the Eagles 3-0, but a late rally by Faith made the game interesting in the last 15 minutes before Faith ran out of time, falling 2-4. Faith now stands at 1-5-0 on the year.

Both teams had chances early in the game, with Manhattan dominating possession but Faith able to find a few opportunities in transition. Manhattan capitalized on their consistent pressure, putting a goal away in the ninth minute to take the early 1-0 lead. The Thunder were able to keep the pressure on through the rest of the half, but the Eagles defense held strong. Just before the half, Faith had a golden opportunity to score but the ball sailed just wide and Manhattan went into the break up 1-0. 

Manhattan's pressure continued from the start of the second half, as they scored in the first minute to lead 2-0. The game then remained scoreless for the next 19 minutes before Manhattan put a third goal in and seemed to put the game away. Faith continued to battle, though, and finally Holly Shepard was able to get one back for Faith to cut the deficit to two. Manhattan would respond with their own goal three minutes later to push the lead back to four, but Shepard again found herself with the ball near the Thunder net and put it away to give Faith their second goal with four minutes to play. Faith couldn't get any closer though, as they fell. 2-4.

The Eagles jump right back into it tomorrow, when they will host fifth ranked Grace Bible College (MI) in a 2pm match.
