The Lady Eagles soccer team brought their best game of the year to the 2015 regional tournament, putting a scare in #2 seed Providence University College before conceding defeat late in the game. The loss ends the Eagles season with a 1-12-0 record.
Providence jumped on the Eagles quickly, scoring a goal just a minute and a half into the game to take the early lead. For much of the game, Providence played in the Eagles half, but timely saves by keeper KD Hutchins combined with solid defending from the back four kept the Pilots from adding to their lead and the Eagles went into the break trailing by just one. Faith created some limited scoring opportunities to start the half, and in the 56th minute Holly Shepard got in behind the Pilots defense. Shepard calmly worked around the keeper and placed the ball into the net to pull Faith even at one a piece. Faith would get a couple more chances but Providence slowly mounted the pressure on Faith. The Eagles defense remained strong for much of the half, but finally cracked in the 86th minute when Providence was able to find the game winner to grab the win from the Eagles. Faith was unable to find the equalizer in the final four minutes, falling by the 2-1 final.
All of the fall sport's teams will be honored on Monday, November 16 at 6pm in the Nettleton Center classrooms.
