Evenly-Matched Eagles Fight For Dominance
By Jon Crossman
ANKENY, Iowa – A close game ended in disappointment for the Faith Eagles on Monday night, with the Emmaus Eagles swooping in to claim victory for the second time this season. An ever-changing battle between the two teams resulted in a total of 10 lead changes, with the greatest lead coming at no more than six points in the final seconds of the game.
Faith's finest put up some great home-court defense, stifling Emmaus under the basket with 21 defensive rebounds and allowing just 10 points from personal fouls. Makenna Laib had herself a game on the other end of the court, executing 8 of her 13 shots perfectly, adding 19 points overall to the Eagles score. Whitney Wacker had a breakout game as well, shooting 50% under the basket for 8 points of her own.
The Eagles loss came at no fault of their own on defense, as Emmaus managed somehow to drain several go-ahead buckets over textbook defensive stance in the fourth quarter for a very late advantage. Faith stumbled in the fourth quarter, falling apart with their shots to trail off on 3-13 shooting and their lowest scoring quarter (11) of the game. Riley Harding drilled one final free throw for Emmaus, ending the game at 63-58.
The ladies are back at home for a weekend full of basketball, playing Ozark Christian College on Friday, February 4, starting at 4:00 p.m.
