Hecker Breaks School Long Jump Record at Dutch Invitational
PELLA, Iowa—The Faith Eagles track and field team traveled to Central College on Good Friday and recorded multiple fine performances, led by Andy Hecker's school-record long jump of 5.75 meters.
The Eagles couldn't have asked for better weather, with plenty of sunshine, light winds, and overall pristine track and field conditions for early April. Faith was up against stiff competition, facing the likes of Central College, Simpson College, William Penn University, and running clubs from Iowa State University and Drake University.
Hecker's record-breaking long jump came on the heels of a good performance in the high jump, which was happening simultaneously. The Eagles had several high jumpers fare well also, with Javon Boyd clearing the bar multiple times to record his personal best of 1.75 meters (5'8.75").
In the throwing events, Liam Shay improved his best javelin throw by over four meters with a throw of 36.57 meters, while Kyla Rounds finished her day with a discus throw of 27.75 meters.
Eagle runners performed well, with David Loveall setting a personal record in the 1500-meter with a time of 4:21.
Faith has this coming weekend off and returns to action on April 22 at the Dick Young Classic in Grinnell, Iowa.
