The Faith women's woccer team compiled a record settinng 8-4-0 record during their 2017 campaign. The girls averaged nearly four goals per game and nearly made 20% of their shots on goal. More importantly than the statistical accomplishments of this group, God did a great work of sanctification in the hearts of these soccer girls. In addition, many girls testified recently of the blessings of the fellowship among the girls throughout the season.
Rebecca Reinertson,
Jessica Frerichs,
Laura Christensen and
Abby Zollinger were team captains. Each of the captains met periodically with different girls throughout the season for prayer and spiritual encouragement. Many girls expressed appreciation for their servant leadership and spiritual influence throughout the year.
Lyndi Shepard led the team with 17 goals and
Allison Yuan followed closely with 16 along with many girls having one or more goals themselves. Freshman
Aubree Smith amassed 100 saves as a goalkeeper this year. Deni St Lawrence and
Allison Yuan led the team with assists, each with six.
In summary, the girls improved tremendously throughout the year and consistently demonstrated resilience as schedule challenges and injuries added to the challenges of an arduous soccer season. Personally, my satisfaction came from the girls growing in faith as "faith enables us to be comfortable with the uncomfortable." The team has already started off season training and workouts as of November to build on their success this season.
