The Lady Eagles soccer team traveled to Dubuque, IA on Friday for the NCCAA North Region Tournament. The #3 seeded Eagles were set to take on the #2 Pilots of Providence University College (Canada). The winner would earn a spot in the region championship.
Faith controlled the game early. Just six minutes in, Allison Yuan launched a shot that found the back of the net and put the Eagles up 1-0. However, things took a turn in Providence's favor following the goal, when Julika Phommarath entered the game for the Pilots. Phommarath got back a goal for the Pilots in the 29th minute, evening the score at 1-1. She would score again just before halftime to give Providence a 2-1 edge at the break.
Providence dominated possession in the second half. The Pilots extended their lead right at the beginning of the second half when Madison Will scored off an assist from Julika Phommarath. Phommarath completed the hat trick ten minutes later and gave Providence the 4-1 lead. Providence would go on to win by that score, ending the Eagles' season earlier than they had hoped.
Despite the early goal, Faith had limited scoring opportunities. The Eagles took only three shots on goal, all of which were in the first half, whereas, the Pilots took a total of 17 shots on goal in the game. Faith keeper Aubree Smith did end the game with 13 saves, keeping the Eagles within reach.
The Eagles ended their season with an overall record of 8-4. They will look to build on the progress and success of this year for the 2018 season.
