Women's Basketball Season Review
The Faith women's basketball team finished the 2016-2017 season with an overall 2-17 record. Though it was not a winning season, the Lady Eagles played well and showed great signs of improvement
throughout the year. They played hard and did not give up in every game they played. From the start of the game until the final whistle, the Lady Eagles played as if the score was tied. The Lady Eagles
returned only Shannon Steffen from last year's team and Alyssa Larson who played two years ago. The rest of the team consisted of freshman and first-year players who did a great job stepping up into
different roles as they were needed throughout the season.
Faith would win only one conference game and one region game during the regular season. The one conference win landed them a #7 seed in the MCCC Conference Tournament. They would face
Manhattan Christian College in the first round of the conference tournament. Though the Lady Eagles fought hard, Manhattan came away with a 67-22 victory. The Lady Eagles did a great job of keeping
their testimony during all their games this year and were awarded MCCC Sportsmanship Award for the fifth year in a row. The one region win gave Faith a #4 seed in the regional tournament. They would
face the number one seed Trinity Bible College in the semi-final round of the regional tournament. The Lady Eagles fell behind early trailing the Lions 47-13 at halftime. Despite the Lady Eagles having a better
second half, Trinity would go on to win the game 76-39 and advance to the championship game.
With a balanced lineup of guards and posts, the playing time was split pretty equally. Senior forward Alyssa Larson would lead the team in scoring, averaging 14.9 points per game. She also led the team
and was in the top five in the NCCAA in rebounding with 12.3 rebounds per game. Alyssa was named to the NCCAA North Region First Team. Faith would out-rebound their opponents by nearly 5 rebounds a
game, giving them an advantage on the inside; however, turnovers proved to be very hurtful for the Lady Eagles this season and is something that everyone will be working at together to fix for next season.
The Faith women's team is very thankful for all the support they received throughout the season. They did a great job of keeping Christ at the center of everything they did on and off the court. The players
are excited about working on their skills and getting ready to do even better next year.
