Women Fall in Hard-Fought Contest
The Eagles kicked off the start of competition for this semester with a conference game against Barclay College (Haviland, KS) on Friday night. Faith stayed within striking distance throughout the game but was unable to put together a run that was enough to challenge the Bears. Despite their efforts, the Eagles fell to Barclay 42-55.
Although Barclay went up early with a 6-0 lead, Faith was able to get their offense going and put themselves right back in the game, ending the first quarter with the score even at 13-13. In the second quarter, the Eagles struggled to knock down shots, shooting just 3-18 during the quarter. Entering halftime, Barclay held a 26-19 lead over the Eagles.
Coming out of the half, Faith looked to battle their way back against the Bears, but their nine turnovers in the third quarter prevented them from doing so. At the 4:35 mark, Barclay had a 42-23 advantage, their largest lead of the game. The Eagles would put together a 9-0 run to end the quarter only down 32-42. However, the Eagles were not able to carry the momentum of their third quarter run over to the fourth quarter. Barclay maintained their lead and defeated Faith by a final score of 55-42.
Junior Shannon Steffen led the Eagles in scoring with 19 points. Senior Alyssa Larson posted her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both Taylor Pals and Emilie Morton had big games on the rebounding end, as Morton grabbed 15 rebounds and Pals 14 rebounds.
The Eagles matchup against another conference opponent in Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS) Saturday, January 14, at 2 PM.
