Eagles Pull Out First Win
After a slow start to their season, the Eagles secured their first win Friday afternoon against Oak Hills Christian College (Bemidji, MN). The game was hosted at North Central University in Minneapolis, MN. Faith came out quickly to start and had an impressive 22-5 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Eagles were able to build on that lead throughout the rest of the game and ended with a 64-31 victory.
With Oak Hills only having five players, the Wolfpack was unable to keep up with Faith's physicality and tempo of play. The Eagles used this to their advantage and continuously fed the ball inside to their posts for easy inside shots. Faith's size advantage also allowed them to dominate the glass, outrebounding Oak Hills 52-33. At the half, Faith led the Wolfpack 41-17.
The Eagles didn't let up the second half, going on a 15-3 run coming out of halftime. With a lead as large as 36 midway through the third quarter, Faith had the option of giving their reserves the majority of the playing time the rest of the way. The pace of the game slowed down during the fourth quarter, as both teams combined to score only nine points the entire quarter; but the Eagles captured their first win in a commanding way, defeating their North Region opponent 64-31.
Senior Alyssa Larson had a big game, putting up 29 points and 24 rebounds. Shannon Steffen followed, adding 17 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Taylor Pals brought in 8 rebounds and also had 3 blocks. Apphia Rofe, another freshman, dished out 9 assists in the game, 7 of which were feeding teammate Alyssa Larson inside.
The Eagles travel again Saturday, December 10, for another North Region match up with Maranatha Baptist University in Watertown, WI.
