Teams Receive Conference Sportsmanship Honors
February 15-17 - The Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles participated in the MCCC Conference Tournament in Manhattan, KS. During the conference awards ceremony, both the men's and women's teams were the recipients of the Sportsmanship Award for the 2017-18 season. The Eagles have become very familiar with this award, especially in the past six years. The men's team has been its beneficiary for the last four out of five seasons. On the women's side, this marks the sixth year in a row, going back to the 2012 season, that the Lady Eagles have been recognized for their sportsmanship.
While the success of an athletic program is most often defined by wins and losses, the attitudes and behaviors of players communicate whether or not a program is truly given to building success beyond the overall record. This success can be seen in the character and life choices of the individual athlete. In order to achieve good sportsmanship, the value of teamwork, self-control, discipline, respect, and humility must be emphasized constantly, not just in games and practices, but in every day life. Challenging and pushing athletes to get better everyday athletically is important, but Faith's coaches recognize that the players' time as collegiate athletes is short in comparison to the rest of their life; that being said, a greater important is placed on pushing athletes to get better every day personally.
Sportsmanship can be easily overlooked as an award, but, in reality, it is a great honor because it recognizes the spirit and heart a team plays with. Faith's basketball coaches are proud of the character the players consistently held to throughout the season. These players, in large part, are responsible for the reputation of superior sportsmanship that Faith Baptist Bible College has become known for and hopes to continue for many years to come.
