ST. PAUL, Minnesota—The Faith Eagles women's soccer team closed out an unusual regular season on Saturday with a 6-0 loss to NCCAA Division I opponent, Northwestern. Back-to-back games against larger school opponents made for a challenging finish to the year, but Coach Barron hopes the stiff competition will have them ready for regionals this week in Watertown, Wisconsin.
Northwestern dominated from start to finish, scoring a goal in the game's first two minutes. They used that as fuel for their Senior Day activities and never looked back. Faith was outshot 34-3 for the game. With the loss, the Eagles fell to 3-5 on the season.
Faith now turns its sights on a return to the NCCAA National Championships, needing just one win this Saturday in the rubber match against Maranatha to advance to the round of four in Kissimmee, Florida. Faith and Maranatha split their two meetings this year, with the Sabercats winning the first one in Watertown, 3-2, and Faith winning the second one in Ankeny, 2-1. Maranatha is 3-5-1. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m.
