Ladies Fall in Final Minutes to Top Ranked Central Christian
The Lady Eagles took on the #2 team in the MCCC Central Christian College of the Bible this past weekend. Faith battled hard, leading for much of the game, but a late run by the visitor was too much for the Eagles to overcome as they fell 67-73. Faith finishes the regular season at 7-12 and 1-6 in the converence.
The game started off much like their last game against the Lady Saints as Faith stuck right with Central through the first quarter. In the second quarter the Lady Eagles stepped up their defense and outscored the Lady Saints 18-10. With that run the Lady Eagles took a 5 point lead (31-26) into the locker room at halftime.
The second half started out well for the Lady Eagles as they were able to get the lead up to 8 points early in the third quarter. It was a high scoring quarter for both teams, and really set the stage for a hard fought fourth quarter as well. The Lady Eagles would hold the lead and take a 4 point lead into the fourth quarter leading 52-48.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Eagles continued to play well as the game went back and forth with both teams trading baskets. With 2:21 left in the game Faith still held a one point lead but the Lady Saints took that lead on a pair of free-throws. The game ended with the Lady Saints sinking seven free-throws and the Lady Eagles not being able to score anything as Faith lost game 73-67.
Laura Garwick led the way for Faith with 24 points along with 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Ashley Pearson had 14 points and 15 rebounds. Holly Shepard had 13 points. Shannon Steffen chipped in 8 points. Kellie Warne had 6 points and added 4 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles will take on Barclay College in the first round of the MCCC Tournament this Thursday at 2pm in Joplin, MO.
