Barnette Scores Career High 38; Eagles Haul in Honors at Conference Tourney
It was quite the weekend for the Faith Eagles men's basketball team as they stormed into Haviland, Kansas, and nearly swiped the conference championship trophy from the hands of the Manhattan Christian College Thunder. The Thunder were undefeated in conference play and were ranked as high as number two in the nation as recently as January 24. A runner-up finish was just one of the many awards and highlights for Faith as they hauled in multiple conference honors:
Chris Barnette: Barnette was named First Team All-Conference. His selection came just minutes after he scored a career high 38 points in the Eagles' upset victory over Ozark Christian College in the semi-final round. Barnette was magnificent in that performance, shooting 14-of-22 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point distance. He also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists in the overtime thriller. Barnette is averaging 22.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game for the season.
Jayce Goergen: Goergen was named Second Team All-Conference. A four-year starter, Goergen averaged 9.0 points and 2.7 assists per game for the Eagles, but it's Jayce's leadership that has been the most valuable asset for Coach Fincham this year.
Jared Pearson: Honorable Mention All-Conference. Pearson has been one of the most underrated performers in the conference this year playing on a team that lacks height in the post. No one plays with more heart and determination than Pearson, who has averaged 14.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, shooting 52.4% from the field.
2023 Sportsmanship Award: The Eagles won the MCCC Sportsmanship Award for the 2022-23 season, a testament to the team's character and testimony on and off the court.
The Eagles have two home games this week before regional tournament action begins on March 1 at Emmaus College in Dubuque, Iowa. Pairings and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
