Eagles Back in the Win Column, Defeat Spurgeon in Straight Sets
Faith got back to their winning ways this past Friday as they defeated visiting Spurgeon College 3-0.
Ankeny, IA - A packed house and a sweep were just what the doctor ordered this past Friday, as the Eagles hosted Spurgeon College in an inter-regional contest. The game was part of Faith's annual high school tournament, and Faith did not disappoint the capacity crowd as they roared out to a 25-11 first set victory to set the tone for the evening.
After trailing for much of the second set and facing a 2-0 deficit down 21-24, Spurgeon found some life and managed to come all the way back to take a 25-24 lead. A service error for the Knights, gave the ball back to the Eagles with the score knotted at 25. Unfortunately, the Eagles had their own service error, and Spurgeon had another chance to complete the comeback and take the set. The teams went back and forth before Faith was able to regain the advantage at 30-29 and then close out the set and take a 2-0 lead with a 31-29 set two victory.
Set three found neither team able to pull away through the first ten points. With the score knotted at 13 apiece, the Eagles finally put some distance between themselves and Spurgeon, reeling off five consecutive points. Faith never looked back after that, winning the match by a final of 25-16 in set three.
The Eagle's Sadie Long and Emma Owens both had nice games, finishing with 42% and 40% hitting percentage respectively. Senior Rachel Forgie led the Eagles with 14 kills in the match, while Regan McPeek had 27 assists. Cody Wirges earned five service aces on the night while adding 18 digs.
Faith returns to action on Tuesday, October 3 when they will host the Warriors of Union College at 6 PM. Faith defeated Union 3-0 earlier this year.
