Eagles Qualify for Nationals at Wartburg Select
The Eagle’s heptathlon athletes traveled to Waverly, IA to compete for the weekend in the Wartburg Select.
It was a beautiful weekend, with the wind picking up just slightly for Saturday's events. Sadie Long and Hannah Wernli competed in the heptathlon at this meet which includes the 100m hurdles, 200m, 800m, high jump, long jump, shot put, and javelin.Training hard for these events, the lady Eagles needed to score higher than 2151 to qualify for the NCCAA National Tournament.
Hannah Wernli shaved time off her 100m hurdle race, running an 18.4, her collegiate personal best. Sadie Long jumped her personal record in the high jump with a jump of 1.48m. Not only was this a personal record, but this height also qualified her for the high jump at the NCCAA National Track and Field Meet!
Hannah and Sadie competed hard and ended with 2637 and 2372 points respectively. These scores put them over the qualification mark for the Eagle's to participate in the NCCAA National Meet! Both Eagle's look to continue to work and improve their skills throughout the remainder of the season as they prepare for Nationals.
The Eagle's next meet will take place on April 11-12th at Mt. Mercy in Cedar Rapids, IA. Find more information about the Eagle's schedule here.
