Men Break Record, Set Consecutive Wins Mark with Victory at St. Louis
The Eagle men set a new school record on Saturday with a 78-42 win over St. Louis Christian College. With the win, the Eagles have now won 12 non-exhibition contests in a row, breaking the old school mark of 11 set during the '76-'77 and '10-'11 seasons. The win pushes the Eagles to 17-4 overall, and 6-0 in the Midwest Christian College Conference.
After a bit of a slow start, the Eagles held a six point lead six minutes into the game. Faith would close the half with a 29-17 run to lead by 18 at the half. Faith continued to extend the lead throughout the second half as several men saw extended minutes. Faith won by a 78-42 final score.
The Eagles received 17 points from Aaron Lestikow and Josh Bray, who went a combined 15/23 from the floor. Cody Chaffin added 16 for the Eagles. Leistikow also recorded 5 assists, while Ryan Kupferschmid grabbed 4 of the Eagles 16 steals. Jon Rocha led the team in rebounds with 8.
Less than 24 hours after allowing CCCB to shoot 56%, the Eagles defense responded by holding the host Soldiers to just 24% from the floor. Faith outrebounded St. Louis 43-28, including 13 offensive rebounds. The Eagles were able to force 25 turnovers, which along with the offensive rebounds amounted to 36 of the Eagles 78 points.
Faith will have one day off before returning to the court on Monday for an exhibition contest against NAIA Grand View University. That game will be the Eagles final home game of the season, and will tip at 7:00 PM.
