ANKENY, Iowa—The longest winning streak in nine years for the Faith Eagles women's basketball team was snapped at four on Saturday after a lopsided loss to the Maranatha Sabercats. Maranatha jumped to a 9-0 lead and never looked back, dismantling Faith by a final score of 70-35.
Faith shot a paltry 24 percent for the game and turned the ball over 24 times, while Maranatha exchanged those turnovers into 32 points, essentially the difference in the game. The Sabercats also made 9 of 21 three-point tries and got 31 points off its bench.
Two Eagles scored in double digits, led by Lyndi Shepard's 15 points and Karina Fritz's 10.
The last Eagles women's team to win more than four in a row was the 2009-10 team that won six straight and finished with a record of 16-12. With the loss on Saturday, Coach Fincham's team fell back to .500 with an 8-8 record. The Eagles have just two games remaining on their schedule (home vs. Emmaus on Tuesday and home vs. Kansas Christian on Saturday) before the MCCC Conference Tournaments begin February 14 in Belton, Missouri.
