Track and Field Season Underway for Eagles
By Coach Ryan Long
It was cold and windy in Cedar Rapids as the Faith Eagles Track and Field team arrived on the Mount Mercy University campus for their first meet of the season. Everyone was thankful when the sun came out in the middle of the afternoon, making it a little more bearable to be outdoors.
The shotput was the first event, with both Chance Eden and Kyla Rounds throwing well. Sadie Long was next up competing in the high jump. She didn't clear the height she wanted to, but still placed fourth in the field of six jumpers. Rounding out the field events was Kyla Rounds in the discus followed by our four javelin throwers: Paul Farlow, Chance Eden, Liam Shay, and Buddy LaFleur. All of them threw exceptionally well with PRs across the board.
The wind was a factor for the runners as they came down the back stretch and into the turn. Conrad Lobb was first up for our runners, competing well in the 1500-meter event. Next was Logan Fox running in his first-ever track meet, running strong in the 100-meter dash. Then it was Caleb Neumann's turn as he ran a very tough 400-meter race in the windy conditions, rounding the track in just 55 seconds. The final running event for the Eagles was the 400 hurdles, with both Kristin and Sharon Yuan coming within a few seconds of the national qualifying mark in the event.
We are looking forward to some warmer weather this week as we prepare for the Central College Invitational on Friday afternoon in Pella. Thank you for your continued prayers for safety for each of our team members as they work hard every day.
