Tyler Carson Breaks School Hurdles Record
OSKALOOSA, Iowa—Tyler Carson broke the school record in the 110-meter hurdles on Saturday, May 1, as the Faith Eagles competed in their final track and field events of the regular season at the William Penn Open in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Despite incredibly high winds, Coach Ryan Long was pleased with his team's results:
"It was finally warm for a meet, which was nice, despite the high winds! Several ended up coming home with a little sunburn, including the coaches.
The biggest highlight of the meet was Tyler Carson coming in second in the 110 hurdles and setting a new school record of 15.10 seconds! He hit the first hurdle hard, which slowed him down somewhat, so we weren't expecting it to end with a very good time. However, Tyler barely clipped the second hurdle and then ran fast and smooth for the remainder of the race, as he overtook all but the first place hurdler. It was fun to watch!
Another exciting set of races was the men's and women's 800 meter races. Ethan Wooten ran a great strategic race, drafting off the lead runner in his heat for the first lap, then passing him up with 300 meters to go and sprinted the rest of the race, completing the second lap 4 seconds faster than the first lap, finishing about 80 meters ahead of the second place finisher, placing fifth overall. Emily Anderson ran a tremendous race in the women's 800, finishing second in her heat, fighting the wind and still finishing with a personal record time of 2:46!
All of the runners and throwers competed well, culminating a fantastic season. We now shift gears and focus on preparing for the NCCAA National Track Meet at Greenville University May 12-14."
