MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota—The Faith Eagles men's soccer team opened their season on Saturday in Minneapolis against North Central University, the reigning national champions in NCCAA Division II soccer. The Eagles held their ground but suffered their first loss of the season, 4-0.
The Eagles were unable to create opportunities on offense against the Rams, managing just two shots on goal the entire 90 minutes. Both of those shots came in the second half.
"We struggled to attack open spaces on offense," said Coach Sauser, who was pleased with his team's preparation coming into the season opener, especially with the progress of the sophomore class.
North Central's first goal came at the 12:22 mark, followed by the second goal of the half at the 37:59 mark. A tired Eagles' defense gave up two more early in the second half. Four Eagles' defenders played the full 90 minutes: goalkeeper Jason Conable, and defenders Andrew Young, Sawyer Gogerty, and Noah Zollinger.
The Eagles return to action with their home-opener on Saturday against Randall University (2-1) at 12:00 p.m.
