Faith Signs Dual-Sport Athlete
Faith Baptist Bible College is pleased to announce the signing of Rebekah Smith from Ankeny Christian Academy. Bekah is a dual-sport athlete signing with Faith for both the 2017-2018 volleyball and basketball seasons.
In her senior volleyball season, Bekah led the ACA volleyball team with 215 kills, an average of 2.83 kills per set, and in blocks with a total of 46 blocks on the year. She received 1st Team All-Conference honors both her junior and senior seasons and also was named All-District her senior year.
Kelly Appell, Bekah's high school volleyball coach, speaks highly of Bekah's focus on being a team player. "She makes it a priority to encourage others and those playing around her." Appell, who has coached Bekah for 4 years, says, "Bekah is one of the most humble players I have ever coached. She recognizes that her talents are God-given and doesn't try to bring attention to herself through her play."
Coach Lanny Nihart is excited about the addition of the 6' middle blocker to his 2017 Faith Eagles team. "Bekah will bring a needed presence in the middle blocker position. She has the capability to increase her attacking and blocking speed to become both an offensive and defensive impact player. We will explore opportunities for her to become the dominant blocker on weak side as well."
On the basketball side, Bekah averaged 9.4 points per game during her senior year. She also led the team in rebounds and blocks, averaging 9 rebounds per game and 3.6 blocks per game. This year, Bekah was awarded 2nd Team All-Conference and Team Co-MVP.
Faith Women's Basketball Coach Jack Arneson recognizes the potential contributions Bekah can bring to the Eagles on the basketball court. "Bekah's skills to guard on the wing and block shots down low will provide a boost for us defensively. Bekah is the type of player that has the potential to average a double-double consistently throughout the season. Her ability to score and rebound the ball will be an asset to next year's team."
Bekah is the daughter of Randy and Judy Smith. She will be pursuing a 2-year mission's degree while at Faith.
