Strong Second Quarter Not Enough for Lady Eagles
ANKENY, Iowa—The Faith Eagles women's basketball team had their best quarter of the season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as they fell to Trinity Bible College, 55-47.
The Eagles outscored the Lions, 15-7, in the second quarter—easily the best 10-minute stretch of the season for Faith, who is 0-5 after the weekend tournament. The Eagles made 6-of-14 baskets in the quarter, including 2-of-6 from three-point distance. Alicia Smith sparked the run with 8 points over that stretch, giving the ladies the lead at halftime, 24-21.
Trinity flipped the script in the third quarter, outscoring Faith 18-9 to regain control of the game. The Eagles clawed back within four with just under five minutes to play, but a Trinity three-pointer and several made free throws toward the end of the game were the difference.
Faith shot 31 % for the game (5-of-23 from three) and outrebounded Trinity 39-31. Makenna Laib had her finest game as an Eagle, leading all scorers with 17 points, a career-high. Fellow freshman Rachel Kleczka had a career-high in rebounds with 17. Alicia Smith was the only other Faith player in double figures with 12 points.
The Eagles have a week off for Thanksgiving before returning to action on Tuesday, December 3, at Kansas Christian College.
