Eagles Hold Their Own in Loss to Warriors
By Jon Crossman
FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Eagles started their long slate of away games with a rematch against the Waldorf University Warriors, looking to redeem themselves from the 0-3 loss they experienced at the hands of the Warriors at Faith just a week prior to the match. Unfortunately, the Eagles started the game with an uphill battle after falling short in the first set, and weren't able to come back in the other two sets, so the second match was not quite as close a competition as the first confrontation between the two teams. Regardless, the Eagles continue on to the next away game with their heads held high and a willingness to get back another win.
The first set was the closest fought battle, with the Eagles putting in the work and making it a relatively even playing field (19-25). Late in the game, the Eagles lost some composure and their solid formation on the court, leaving gaps open for the opposing Warriors to strike hard from above. There were some amazing rallies from the Eagles liberos Morgan Stephens and Sarah Iller, who both kept the ball alive with their signature digs. After a tedious comeback by the Eagles in the second set, the Warriors were able to bring it back (17-25) and the Eagles, too exhausted from hanging on to the first two sets, gave up the final one (15-25) to return home.
The Eagles' front row once again performed with excellence, with both Amanda Larson and Krystal Wikstrom successfully completing multiple kills on the other side of the court. The front row also completed more blocks against the Warriors, with an impressive solo block from Rachel Kleczka.
The volleyball team (6-3) will be back on the road October 16th against Calvary University, with the game starting at 6 p.m.
