ELLENDALE, North Dakota – The Eagles rounded out their first road trip of the season with two losses and one big comeback win, balancing their season record out to 3-3. A sluggish start against Trinity Bible College led to an early misstep on Friday night, where the Eagles almost clawed their way back in with the 2-3 loss. The next morning they faced Trinity again, this time powering through a 2-0 deficit to beat the Lions in an epic late game recovery. Unfortunately, the drained Eagles could not overcome their final game of the weekend, falling short to the DCB Jacks in just 4 sets. Despite the losses, the Eagles collectively agreed it was a good experience on the road for building team unity and learning to push past fatigue and keep going.
The first game was a nail-biter for the Eagles and fans watching online, with a heart-breaking finish as the ladies fell in the 5th game due to some hurting missed serves. The second game was a better scenario for the Eagles, who after a good night's rest and a lengthy warmup were able to complete the comeback against Trinity, thanks to their big hitters in the front row. The final game of the road trip came just half an hour after the morning game, giving the team enough time to warmup and get orientated for the matchup against the Jacks. The Eagles held their own for a while, but a balanced defense from DCB's Jacks proved too concrete. A solid hitting performance from Shonte Seale, a freshman for the Jacks hailing from Barbados, was a strong contributor to many of the points scored against the Eagles. Ending the weekend trip with the loss, the ladies return home from North Dakota to recover for the slate of games in the upcoming week.
Outstanding plays from the weekend came from newcomer Sierra Udd's excellent serving prowess, keeping the Eagles alive for much of their only victory, and veteran players Anissa Greiner and Amanda Larson as they both stood their ground in the front court, successfully finishing multiple kills to fuel the Eagles' momentum.
The volleyball team (3-3) will be back at home September 15th against Calvary University, starting at 6:30 p.m.
