Volleyball Gets Back in the Win Column
DES MOINES, Iowa—The Faith Eagles volleyball team is back in the win column after a 3-0 win over Union College Tuesday evening. Faith controlled the first set and rallied from small deficits in sets two and three to halt their eight-game losing streak.
Set One
The Eagles set the tone in set one, taking advantage of solid attack play with 13 kills in the opening frame. Union tied the score at 15 each before kills by Bekah Smith, Jen Smith, Anissa Greiner, and Alicia Smith, all in succession, widened the gap and propelled the Eagles to a 25-19 win.
Set Two
Faith fell behind, 6-2, in the second frame. A nine-point run by the Eagles swung momentum in the opposite direction. The charge was led, once again, by solid attack play from Anissa Greiner and Alicia Smith, who combined for four kills in the nine-point run. Once the Eagles had momentum, they carried it all the way to an easy 25-14 victory.
Set Three
The third set was close at the beginning and end, but the middle part of the frame was the difference for the Eagles. Faith went on a 5-0 run in the middle of the frame to expand their lead from one to six. Several errors by Union College helped the Eagles' cause. A late charge by Union closed the gap to 22-21 before three more errors sealed the victory for the Eagles.
Notable Performances
Emmy Caves led the Eagles with 23 digs, while four Eagles had at least six kills. Alicia Smith led the way with 7 kills, while Anissa Greiner, Amanda Larson, and Bekah Smith each tallied six.
