MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin: The Eagles were handed their first loss in over two weeks on Friday night.
The Faith Baptist Bible College Eagles lost to the Mount Mary University Blue Eagles in three sets with scores of 17-25, 23-25, and 12-25. Faith came into the game riding a four-game winning streak. Previously this season, Faith hosted Mount Mary and won in four sets; this match, however, the Eagles struggled to complete their attacks and score, resulting in their first loss since October 2. Faith's record now stands at 12-9.
Set one
The Eagles struggled from the beginning of the first set. Multiple, early attack errors put them behind the Blue Eagles 2-9. Despite narrowing the gap to 3 points at 7-10 a short time later, Faith was never able to recover the lead, and Mount Mary won the set 17-25.
Set two
Things seemed like they were looking up for Faith in the second set as they led Mount Mary by 1 to 2 points for most of the set. The Eagles led by as many as 5 points, 16-11, when Bekah Smith recorded kills in 3 of 4 consecutive plays. However, the Blue Eagles came back to tie the score at 17; the two teams tied again at 21, 22, and 23 before the Blue Eagles scored twice in a row to reach 25 points and clinch the win.
Set three
Going into the third set, the Eagles had a hard time connecting on their hits, once again finding themselves at an early disadvantage at 3-9. The relentless offense of the Blue Eagles built their lead throughout, winning the third set 12-25 to hand Faith its first loss in over two weeks.
