Eagles Ride Strong Serving of Crider to Victory over Barclay
ANKENY, Iowa—Michaela Crider had a career-high 9 service aces to lead the Eagles in a 3-1 win over Barclay College (5-3) Friday night. Faith fell in the first set, but bounced back to win the next three straight, improving to 9-6 overall, 2-1 in conference play. Crider's 41 aces rank her in the top five, nationally, in NCCAA Division II play.
Set one
The Eagles fell behind early in set one and were never able to gain the lead, falling 25-15. Barclay recorded 13 kills.
Set two
Faith came out strong in set two, jumping to a 7-1 lead off a series of attack errors by Barclay. The Eagles expanded their lead to 21-12 before Barclay made a run and got as close as 22-17. Opposite of the first set, Faith never trailed in set two, winning 25-17.
Set three
Barclay answered back with a vengeance in set three, storming out to a 14-7 advantage, and it looked like the Eagles were in real trouble. Faith battled back to a 14-14 tie behind several Barclay miscues and a pair of kills by Crider. After a 16-16 score, Faith went on a 7-0 run and never looked back, winning 25-21. Three kills by Ashley Dey were a big part of the Faith run.
Set four
The Eagles faced adversity once again in set number four, falling behind 4-0, before battling back to a 5-5 tie. Barclay regained their lead and kept it at arm's length all the way to an 18-15 score, but Faith recorded a kill from Alicia Smith and also from Abby Booth to tie it at 18. Faith got its first lead of the set at 22-21, following an ace by Crider, and the Eagles never relinquished their lead, finishing off Barclay, 25-22.
