Eagles Continue Win Streak
The Lady Eagles set out to continue their three-game winning streak Friday night against Calvary University of Kansas City, MO. The Eagles battled through close sets to earn the 3-0 sweep. Faith is now 7-7 for the year and 2-0 so far in conference play.
The first set of the contest came down to the finish. After several lead changes between the Eagles and Warriors, the score was tied 23-23; but Faith would record the next two kills to take set one from Calvary. The second set continued the close battle action. The Eagles came away with a 25-20 victory and went into the third ready to take care of business in three sets. The Warriors, however, were not done just yet. Calvary jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead and stayed in front the rest of the way, extending their lead to as much as 19-14. Faith was able to capitalize on Calvary's hitting errors and tie the game at 20-20. Repeating the events of the 23-23 tie from the first set, Faith went on to get the next two points and steal the set from Calvary, taking the game 3-0.Charity Appell and Bekah Smith led the offensive efforts for the Eagles, each with 9 kills.
Before the game, Faith honored their 2 four-year seniors, Shannon Steffen and Emilie Morton. Shannon has played in a variety of positions for the Eagles through her career. Starting out as a libero, she has totaled 828 digs to date. Emilie Morton has amassed 1,631 assists in her four year career as a setter, an average of 4.85 assists per set.
Next week will be several key matchups for the Eagles, as they are on the raod for three conference games. The team will be in Dubuque, IA first on Tuesday night, October 3, for a re-match with Emmaus Bible College at 6 PM.
