Lady Eagles Start Off Strong in Conference Play
The Lady Eagles began conference play on Saturday against Ozark Christian College (Joplin, MO). The Eagles jumped out to a commanding lead and didn't let up, sweeping Ozark in straight sets 3-0. Faith is now 1-0 in the MCCC conference and 5-7 for the overall season.
Faith and Ozark went back and forth exchanging lead possessions at the start of the game, but several attack errors on the Ambassador's side put some distance between the two teams, and Faith would take set one 25-13.
While Ozark came out in set two with a 4-0 lead, the Eagles quickly stopped the run and shut down the Ambassadors, allowing them to score only three more points the rest of the set. Faith easily handled set 2, topping Ozark by a score of 25-7. Faith controlled the third set in a dominating way, just as they had in the previous two sets. Led by hitter Abby Booth, the Eagles' 25-14 third set win would give them the victory.
Faith's hitters stepped up in the game and had one of their best performances of the season, finishing with a .328 kill percentage. Freshman Abby Booth made big contributions to the offense for the Eagles, leading the team with 12 kills. Another freshman Bekah Smith added 8 kills, and Junior Charity Appell put down 7 of her own.
The Lady Eagles will travel to Lincoln, NE on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 for a matchup with Union College at 6 PM.
