Lady Eagles Suffer Tough Loss to Emmaus
The Lady Eagles returned to their home court last night in a match against undefeated conference opponent Emmaus Bible College (Dubuque, IA). While Faith came out strong in the opening set, struggles with serve receive and with hitting errors hurt the Eagles greatly in the two sets to follow. Emmaus would handle the Eagles in straight sets and continue their undefeated season, while Faith's record moves to 3-7 on the year.
Faith jumped out to an early lead and stayed in front the majority of the game. Leading by a score of 20-13 at one point, it looked as if the first set would be an easy Eagle win; but Emmaus pieced together little runs of offense and climbed back into the game, pulling to within four. Faith still held the lead 23-18, but coming out of a timeout, Emmaus would go on a 7-0 lead to steal the first set.
Emmaus's momentum from the late comeback in the first set carried over into the second, as they jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead. Faith would answer by taking advantage of Emmaus's serve receive and attack errors, which helped the Eagles to cut the deficit to 8-13; but Emmaus made up for their errors later on with an 8-2 run that won them the second set 25-12.
The third set proved to be a repeat of the second. Emmaus jumped on the Eagles quickly, but Faith stayed within striking distance, before Emmaus gained the offensive momentum they needed to pull away. Emmaus took advantage of 8 straight kills and gave themselves a comfortable 21-6 lead. Emmaus went on to win the third set 25-9, taking the match 3-0.
Faith's offensive struggles were clear with a .024 kill percentage, as opposed to Emmaus's .322. Samantha Betz led the Eagles with 5 kills.
The Eagles will play again at home against Mount Mary University this Saturday, September 16 at 1 PM.
