Volleyball Wins Second in a Row
The Faith volleyball team recorded their second victory in the 2016 season over the Union College Warriors 3-0. Faith comfortably led throughout the match and limited Union to 12 points in the final set. "We wanted to focus on our defensive pressure and get to balls that were dropping in previous matches. We did a better job tonight and held Union to a low hitting percent, and executing first ball kills on our side," stated coach Lanny Nihart. The Eagles are now 3-7 overall on the year.
For the first time this season Faith suited all 10 players, allowing teammates to be in their regular position. Outside hitter Samantha Betz and junior setter Emilie Morton were two who were able to see full time action for the first time this year. "Our team did a great job of stepping up while Sam and Emilie were rehabbing from injuries. It was great to be able to place people where they were most effective for our team," noted Nihart.
Senior captain Alyssa Larson led the Faith attack with a season high .60 attack percent garnering 12 kills. Samantha Betz, junior outside returning from an ankle injury, provided 3 kills and 4 serving aces. Morton contributed 17 assists. "Outside Alyssa our hitting statistics were not outstanding but it was nice to have Samantha in her regular position. Hopefully, we can get some momentum going into MCCC conference play this Friday and Saturday,' quipped Nihart.
This weekend is the annual homecoming weekend with the Eagles opening conference play on Friday night at 6 PM against Emmaus Bible College and hosting Barclay College on Saturday at 11:30 AM.
