October 19, 2015
The Faith volleyball team secured a third place finish in the MCC conference race this past weekend with a 3-0 victory at Central Christian College in Moberly, Missouri. Faith finishes the regular season with a 7-3 MCCC record, and stands at 13-12 overall with one game remaining before post-season play begins.
The Eagle were able to control the match from set one with a solid defensive effort holding the Saints to 11 points. In sets two and three CCCB was able to reach 15 and 16 points taking advantage of Eagle turnovers. Faith hit 21.9% for the match led by sophomore outside hitter Emily Wolfe with 27.8% and 13 kills while junior middle Alyssa Larson contributed 20.8%, 8 kills and 2 blocks. Senior libero JoJo Hodak added 30 digs. "We are doing a better job of communicating and understanding how to fill our team roles. Each person on the team is contributing a certain set of skills and as a result are enjoying success together. If we stay determined to keep on this path I think we will be very competitve for the MCCC Tournament championship and hopefully post season," noted coach Lanny Nihart.
Faith had a number of serving aces throughout the CCCB match and sustained leads in sets two and three. The Saints were able to make some runs during sets two and three but then Wolfe would find timely kills and hold back the rally. "Emily and our othere scorers are benefiting from strong libero play from senior JoJo Hodak and other defensive backs. While we need to keep working on our defensive transition the backs and front row are communicating better," said Nihart.
Faith will entertain non conference foe Union College on Monday evening and then host the MCCC Tournament championship on Friday and Saturday. The Ealges will enter as the #3 seed with their first round opopnent the #6 seed being the same CCCB squad they just defeated.
