The Faith volleyball team entered this weekend winning four in a row and six of their last eight atches. Despite numerous injuries and sickness during that time, the Eagles were able to manage rotations. However, on Saturday Faith found themselves understanding the value of work ethic.
"We were very lethargic throughout the entire Saturday matches against Baptist Bible College and Ozark Christian College. Without taking anything away from their victories, our inability to continue to adjust and place oursevels in a competitive manner was very significant," noted coach Lanny Nihart. "To be fair we were without one of our leading hitters and had some flu like symptons in players. But we never use that as an excuse, rather ask for the next person to step up."
Faith started out slow in the BBC match and found themselves losing the first two sets despite a reasonable hitting percentage. The Eagles captured set three and appeared to have gained some sense of urgency, however BBC quickly ended the match 3-1 with a set four win.
"We never established any sense of team orientation on offense or defense in the first match. The coaches decided to play individuals who presented a desire and work ethic. While the Ozark match was an important MCCC conference match we changed the rotation and found some encouraging results."
Faith stayed strong through the first part of set one with the new rotation. The Eagles even maintained leads through out the match but ultimately lost 3-0. "In some sense coaches and players have to go back to the drawing board and complete an inventory of our strength and weaknesses. Saturday was not a good day in the life of our team, and I know does not represent who we are and what we can accomplish," noted Nihart. "I was particuarly please with Joy and Karis and their ability to bring enthusiasm and energy to our team."
The Eagles now stand 9-9 on the year and 3-2 in MCCC conference play. Faith travels to Dubuque, Iowa on Tuesday for a road conference game with Emmaus Bible College who they defeated earlier 3-1.
