It was a team effort this past Tuesday night as the Lady Eagle's opened the home portion of their 2015 schedule. Faith hosted North Central University and Union College in a triangular. Faith was victorious in both matches, defeating the Rams of North Central 3-1 in the second match of the day, and followed that up with a 3-0 victory over the Warriors of Union College. Faith is now 2-1 on the young season.
Faith opened the match with North Central hot, running away with a 25-13 opening game win. North Central found life in the second game, though, pushing the Eagles throughout and grabbing a 25-22 second game win. The Eagles re-gained the momentum in the third game as they re-captured the match lead at 2-1 with a 25-19 win. It was all Faith in the fourth game, as the Eagles sealed the win with a 25-17 victory, earning their first match win of the season.
Emily Wolfe and Alyssa Larson led the way for the Eagles, with each recording 11 kills. Wolfe also recorded 28 digs and five aces. Emilie Morton finished with 24 assists.
In their contest with Union, the Eagles found themselves locked in a tight match in game one. Faith battled though, and before a raucous crowd earned a 25-22 first set win. The Eagles had the momentum and wouldn't let go after that, dispatching the visitors in identical fashion with 25-14 wins in set's two and three for a three game sweep of the match.
Kimberly Post finished the game with seven kills, while Larson and Wolfe each added six. Wolfe also added 11 aces, while senior captain JoJo Hodak had 30 digs.
The competition gets much tougher for the Eagles this weekend, when they will host their annual Spikefest tournament. Four of this year's participants were qualifier's for last year's national tournament, including national champion Kentucky Christian and #1 seed Maranatha Baptist. Faith's pool includes Kentucky Christian, along with region champion Providence University College, who defeated Faith in the regioal championship last year, and Cottey College. Faith plays at 4pm and 8pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday. Their final game time will be determined based on how they finish in pool play.
