Volleyball Comes Up Short in Regional Championship
The Lady Eagle's volleyball team battled hard but came up short in their bid for an automatic berth to the NCCAA National Tournament as they fell 3-0 to Providence University College. The loss drops the Eagles to 21-9 on the year. The loss meant the Eagles had to put in for an at-large bid to the national tournament, but those two spots went to Pensacola Christian and Ohio Christian. Faith will finish our their season at the ACCA National Tournament later this week.
Faith played hard throughout the match, and in game one trailed 7-9 early. Providence responded with a run to push the lead to 15-10, then followed that up with a run to 22-12 to remove any hope of an Eagles' opening game win. Faith fell 25-21. Faith found some momentum at the end of game one, and rode that into game two, jumping out to a 7-1 lead and forcing a Providence timeout. However, it was Providence who found momentum next, as they strung together an impressive 24-9 run over the rest of the game to defeat the Eagles 25-16. Faith had no answer for the Pilots in game three, as Providence won 25-13 to earn the sweep and the region title.
Earlier in the day, four Lady Eagles were recognized as All Region recipients. JoJo Hodak, Stephanie Knupp, and Kimberly Post were selected to the NCCAA II North Central All Region team. Shannon Steffen was selected as the region Libero of the Year.
