Eagles Fall to Concordia
August 27, 2014
The Faith Eagles began the 2014 season in a flurry against NAIA Concordia University by capturing a 5-0 lead in the opening set. Putting four returning players and two freshmen on the court they played reasonably well holding short leads before falling 25-15. "It was fun watching our team capture the first volley of the year and then subsequent points, however we did not allow ourselves to sustain the momentum through the rest of the match," noted coach Lanny Nihart. The Eagles hit a high kill percentage at 35.3% without any service errors.
The second set found Concordia's height advantage wearing Faith down defensively and quickly gaining 9-0 and 15-6 leads. The Bulldogs increased their kill percentage from 38.7% to 42.1% behind Paige Getz and middle Mariah Schamp. "For their first match Concordia ran a very smooth offense and we had trouble finding blocking which exposed our back row defense as well." stated Nihart. Concordia ended taking a 25-11 set win and a final 25-9 third set and match win.
Faith was led by freshmen Emily Wolfe with five kills and junior JoJo Hodak with three kills and a high seven digs. The Eagles return home to host the annual Spikefest Tournament this Friday with matches at 4pm against Manhattan Christian and 8pm against Providence College. Saturday will find the Eagles against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College with pending playoffs later in the afternoon.
