Emmaus Trips Up Lady Eagles

The Faith volleyball team hit a bump in the road to their fast start, falling on the road to Emmaus Bible College.  Expecting a victory after winning eight of their first 11 matches, Faith fell in three straight sets 27-25, 25-23 and 25-21. Faith is now 8-4 on the year.

 

Emmaus started the match very quickly in set one gaining a 15-5 edge before Faith called a timeout.  The Eagles responded well, ultimately knotting the score at 22-22 with a chance to pull out the win. "We really did a poor job of executing in the beginning of the match.  Not only did that put us in a bad position for the set but it set the tone for the entire night," noted coach Lanny Nihart. Emmaus ultimately took a close first set 27-25.

 

After capturing set one Emmaus continued hitting well in spite of Faith adjusting their defense.  Faith saw their first lead of the night at 11-10 and 21-20 but could not close the second set.  Untimely serving and hitting errors gave Emmaus the set two win and set up an improbable victory for the host.

 

In set three the Eagles again jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead and appeared to be in control.  Emmaus battled back to tie the score at 21-21, and Faith would not get another point, losing in the third set 25-21.  "We have alot of work today that isn't exactly relegated to X's and O's.  For whatever reason we were not ready to compete and I give all the credit to Emmaus coaches and players for a good victory," noted Nihart.   The Eagles were led by Julia Rocha with 14 kills.

Faith returns to action at home on Friday, when they will host top ranked Ozark Christian College in a 7 PM match.
