WATERTOWN, Wisconsin—The Faith Eagles women's soccer team opened their season with a tough road matchup on Thursday, falling in a close battle with Maranatha, 3-2.
The last time these two teams played was September 26, 2019, when Faith came away with the shutout victory, 2-0. This time, the Sabercats exacted revenge.
Faith struck first with a goal by Sydnie Streich at the 29:45 mark, but Maranatha responded two minutes later to tie the game at one. Maranatha took its first lead shortly before halftime on a goal by Alexis Sponable.
The dagger for Faith came early in the second half when Taylor Moses scored to put the Sabercats up by two. The Eagles pulled back within one on Sydni Streich's second goal of the game, and had several chances to tie at the end of regulation, but came up just short.
Faith returns to action quickly, and things don't get any easier, with a Friday afternoon match against last year's National Runner-Up, Grace Christian University. Grace knocked the Eagles out of last year's semifinal game in Kissimmee, Florida, by the score of 5-0. The game is at Pyche Field in Ankeny at 2 p.m.
